Star Canadian tennis player Felix Auger-Aliassime will play in his first Grand Slam quarterfinal in three years after a dominant US Open victory.
The 25-year-old entered the tournament ranked 25th in the world, but has managed to knock off the world number-three Alexander Zverev in a tense third-round match, setting up a round-of-16 matchup against 15th-ranked Andrey Rublev on Monday.
That proved to be no issue for Auger-Aliassime, as he defeated the Russian in straight sets. This will be the first time that a Canadian man has advanced to a Grand Slam quarterfinal since the 2022 Australian Open, where both he and Denis Shapovalov made it.
“It feels even better than the first time. I think the first time, at [age] 21, I was kind of on my way up,” Auger-Aliassime said after the victory. “To have a few setbacks, injuries, struggles with confidence, and to come back the second in the quarter-finals here, it feels much better.
“It feels more deserved, and I’m soaking in every moment here.”

It was not a walk in the park for Auger-Aliassime, as he had to win seven games in the opening set against Rublev, eventually taking it by a score of 7-5. He then managed to take the second set 6-3 before eventually winning the match off the strength of a 6-4 third and final set.
The Canadian is now set to take on eighth-ranked Australian Alex de Minaur in the quarterfinal, which is set to get underway on Wednesday. Those two have played three head-to-head matches before, with Auger-Aliassime winning two of them.
However, both of Felix’s victories came back in 2022, with de Minaur having defeated him in their latest matchup in 2024.
He is now the lone Canadian left playing at the 2025 US Open after both Shapovalov and Gabriel Diallo were defeated in the second round. Vicky Mboko, who is coming off an emotional victory at the National Bank Open, was eliminated in the first round while Leylah Fernandez bowed out in the third round.
