This would be the perfect race to film in slow motion. On Sunday, July 28, mascots of local businesses and organizations will go head-to-head at the 5th annual Hastings Racecourse Mascot Derby!
The race itself is quite self-explanatory, but it benefits Variety-The Children’s Charity and will mark the fifth anniversary of the fun corporate race. The mascots will race in multiple heats for a chance to qualify for the Mascot Derby Title finals held later in the afternoon.
There will also be a live DJ, prizes, and food and beverage specials. This family-friendly event is FREE for spectators and will be a part of the racecourse’s regular Sunday races.

Some of last year’s competitors include Mr.Fox from 99.3 The Fox, Breadhead from Cobs Bread, Return-It Man from Encorp Pacific, Red from Red Robin Restaurants, Chef Wasabi from Vancouver Canadians Baseball Club, Doolie from Doolin’s Irish Pub, Salty from Port Metro Vancouver, Slabby from Marble Slab Creamery, Hasty from Hastings Racecourse, Philbert the Hedgehog from Purdy’s Chocolates and Jack the Giant from the Vancouver Giants.
The winner of the 2012 Mascot Derby Title was the one and only Chef Wasabi from the Vancouver Canadians.
