One pedestrian is dead and another is seriously injured following a car accident on South East Marine and Victoria Drive that happened at 8 p.m. last night.

The VPD said they are investigating the circumstances of the crash. Both of the pedestrians were taken to hospital, but the 18-year-old woman died, while the 20-year-old man, a friend of hers, remains in hospital with a broken neck and head injuries.

“Investigators continue to gather evidence and speak with witnesses to help determine the factors involved in this horrific crash,” said acting Inspector Ken Eng from the VPD Traffic Section in a statement.

“This collision resulted in the tragic loss of a young life and life-altering injuries for another. We want to remind all road users that these tragedies are preventable.”

The 54-year-old driver wasn’t injured and is cooperating with police. Her car was seized as part of the investigation.

According to the VPD, this is the 11th deadly car accident this year, nine of which have been pedestrians.
