Good morning, gorgeous! I’ve gotten some requests as of late on which staple pieces to buy for a work appropriate wardrobe that won’t break the bank. As much as I love virtually ballin’ out of control with my online shopping, I get weak in the knees for great deals. My heart literally skips a beat and my loins begin to quiver when I spot a budget friendly item, same symptoms for when I see a cute boy, go figure. Work clothes don’t have to be boring, say good bye to ill fitted suits and mom jeans on casual Fridays (I won’t let that happen to you).
So here we have, some of the essential items for the office that won’t leave you looking like old Mildred from the mailing room. You’re fabulous, why not let that shine at your daily 9-5 grind?
Okay let’s start with tops. I don’t know about you but I am so sick of the blazer/legging combo with the designer purse look. If someone asked me what the Vancouver girl uniform was, that’s what I’d give them. Ladies. Stop. Please.
The blazer is a staple in every wardrobe, I get it! But if you’re going to wear it, why not try something with a low button and in something that isn’t black? This Topshop unlined blazer ($110.00) is beautiful! I really love the idea of a low button close because it gives your twins room to breathe. Then we have the cardigan (J. Crew $59.50), again, this can be done in color so that you don’t look like you’re attending a funeral every day of the workweek. (I like red, red makes me think boss).
Another must have in your wardrobe is a white dress shirt. The Joe Fresh one above goes for under $20.00, score! The last top I chose is something that is professional yet fun. I dub this the unboring shirt you’re allowed to wear to work. (Topshop front drape top, $66.00)
You can pretty much wear black tights with every single item I’ve picked up top but if you’re looking to steer away from the Vancouver woman’s uniform, these pants should do the truck.
A great pair of work pants is a must. These twill trousers (Zara, $39.90) are the business, these pants will close deals. Then we have people who like to wild out on casual Fridays but to refrain from looking like a hot inappropriate mess, remember one thing- dark denim is your friend. Skinny jeans for the office from H&M ($24.95) can be worn on your off days too (double duty), and something I’m really excited about about are wide leg bottoms! Levi’s wide leg jeans ($58.00 $50.00)
Dresses are cool at the work place, as long as you’re not Britney Spears-ing anyone (can also be referred as the Lindsay Lohan-ing). Just make sure it’s not too short and you’re golden. Green dress (Old Navy, $29.94) / Peach crepe dress (Topshop, $42.00) / Cream belted lined pencil skirt (Mango, $60)
And course we have shoes! I know a black pair of pumps is a given so I incorporated these adorable work friendly low wedges into the mix (H&M, $34.95). I’m a total rookie when it comes to heels but wedges I can walk forever in. These leopard flats from Aldo ($70.00, $54.98) are a great way to play up any outfit.
So there you have it folks! It took me awhile to really narrow down these pieces for you (true love I tell you). These were all chosen because they can be mixed and matched with ease. The green dress x topshop blazer, the pencil skirt x mint drape top, white dress shirt x skinny jeans x leopard flats… you see!!? I hope this helps you in getting your groove back at your week day grind. There’s never a reason not to look your best, because when you look like a dime, you be feelin’ good all the time 🙂
Happy Monday, everyone. You already know where to find me, here, here, or here. Ciao!
