For the last few years, fashionably inclined Vancouverites have tried desperately to shed our city of its “3rd worst-dressed city in North America” reputation. One of those people is stylist and image consultant Sarah Parsons. After working for years in the fashion industry styling women, she realized that she was “a stylist in an unstylish city.” The options to find chic, unique clothes were few and far between, and there was a misconception that being “dressed-up” meant standing out, but not for the reasons Sarah hoped for. So she opened Stylishmess, a women’s boutique in Vancouver’s Point Grey shopping village, where she could inject her fashion expertise, while helping women both look good and feel good.
Stylishmess caters to women of pretty much any age range, offering both options for her professional or personal wardrobe. Some of the lines you can find at Stylishmess are House of Harlow, Vince, Milly, Parker, Bloch, Mackage and Rebecca Minkoff. If those mentioned lines didn’t already make you excited, then perhaps the shopping experience at Stylishmess will. Each section of the store is set up like a mini-closet for each lifestyle, for example there’s an “evening closet” or a “casual weekend closet”, with everything you’ll need for that type of outfit all grouped together (shoes, bags, accessories, different layering pieces etc.). According to Sarah, this way of merchandising makes for an easy-breezy shopping trip, while giving customers ideas to piece together a full look.
For a boutique that seems a bit unassuming from the outside, Stylishmess definitely wows with what’s waiting on the inside. As for that cheeky name? Sarah thought of it as the perfect merriment of the type of women she helps: those that either play up too much into the trends, or those who want to be stylish but are too afraid to ask how. It may be a messy transformation process, but after a visit to this boutique, the results are definitely not without style.
