The weekend you’ve been waiting for is here – FAN EXPO is back and it’s more steampunktacular than ever.
The event is taking over the city from now until Sunday, November 12 for a pop culture extravaganza, hosted at the Vancouver Convention Centre. And you really don’t want to miss this one.
You’ll get to enjoy the best of comics, sci-fi, horror, anime, and gaming – all under one roof. Prepare yourself for jaw-dropping cosplay, mind-blowing anime, and all the latest nerd-wear that you could imagine, including new to this year, a steampunk bazaar.
And yes, you’ll get brownie points if you rock up to the event dressed as your favourite cosplay character. Tickets to the event start at $30 and you can snap up yours at the door or online now via FAN EXPO.
But before you go, we’ve compiled a list of the top nine must-see events taking place at the expo so you can make the most of it.
The steampunk time travellers bazaar
When: Friday to Sunday
New this year, the bazaar will offer the finest and most exotic Steampunk costumes for your trying on and buying enjoyment. Steampunk experts will also be running free panels, demonstrations, and workshops, throughout the weekend, covering topics like Nerf gun duelling, props building, leather working and how to steampunk on a budget.
Q&A panels with celebrity talent
When: Friday to Sunday
Get the inside scoop on what goes on behind the scenes and other never heard before on set moments during the Q&A panels with celebrity guests including; the cast of The Flash, Arrow, Degrassi, Malcolm Goodwin, and Robert Buckley, plus five members of the iZombie cast.
Celebrity photo-ops
When: Friday to Sunday
Why try for a selfie when you can have a guaranteed pro shot with your favourite celebrity? Photo-ops will be available with stars like Grant Gustin, Henry Winkler, Famke Janssen, and more. So that’s your weekend Instagram feed sorted!
Cosplay characters
When: Friday to Sunday
Adults and children alike can let their alter-ego out to play at the coolest cosplay playground in the city. Also catch the celebrity cosplay panel with Leeanna Vamp, Holly Wolf and Karli Woods, on Saturday at 1:30 pm.
FAN EXPO speed dating
When: Friday to Sunday
It only takes three minutes to make a connection and a whole weekend for it to flourish. Make friends, find love, or go for something in between, with FAN EXPO’s speed dating. Hetero and LGBT sessions will also be available. This is a 19+ event.
The improvised adventures of…FAN EXPO edition
When: Sunday, 4 pm
If you want to learn about the chaos that truly ensues backstage while trying to coordinate FAN EXPO then you need to attend this. Comedy troupe The Fictionals will give you a glimpse into their back office happenings and let you in on the secrets and bloopers.
Twisted Toonz presents an all-star voice actor script reading of The Princess Bride

Sketch duels
When: Friday to Sunday
They’ve rested their wrists and are ready to duel! Watch your favourite artists such as Humberto Ramos, Nick Bradshaw, Tony Moore, Leonard Kirk, Tom Grummett, Yanick Paquette, Dan Parent, and more, draw it out.
Improv Against Humanity: FAN EXPO edition
When: Saturday, 5 pm
Contestants will play Cards Against Humanity as Vancouver comedy trupe The Fictionals bring hilarious (often questionable) combinations to life.
