Family hit by car at Surrey pedestrian crosswalk, two children critically injured

Surrey RCMP are appealing for witnesses after a family of four was struck by a car in a marked crosswalk early Tuesday evening.

Sergeant Barry Beales says it happened just before 6 p.m. at the intersection of 76th Avenue and 147A Street.

“The people were walking across the road… A family of a mother, father, and two children,” he said. “And while they were crossing the road, the vehicle failed to yield and unfortunately struck the occupants of the crosswalk.”

Three members of the family were transported to hospital, two of whom were in critical condition.

“My understanding that of the two young people that were transported, one is a more serious condition. To what extent… I’m not even sure about that myself.”

The driver did remain at the scene, but Mounties are asking anyone who saw the accident to contact RCMP.
