Ex-Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn Hughes made sure to properly celebrate his and his team’s massive victory on Sunday.
Thanks to an overtime winner from Jack Hughes, the U.S. men’s Olympic hockey team was able to defeat Canada by a 2-1 final to capture gold for the first time since 1980.
The massive accomplishment, which included a phone call to the team from President Donald Trump, was one that the players were sure to celebrate. Plenty of drinks were being consumed, which was very clear later in the evening when Hughes was interviewed on NBC alongside Jack and Connor Hellebuyck.
Though the trio of players shared a great message, which included shouting out the troops, fans watching had a very good laugh at how intoxicated the former Canucks defenceman appeared to be.
“It’s just so special,” said a slurring Hughes. “I want to thank our troops for allowing us to play this game, and thankful for all the support back home. Very special to be a part of this group. It’s awesome to win a gold medal.”

To little surprise, Hughes was exactly as advertised throughout the Olympics. His eight points led the U.S., and he finished with one assist in Sunday’s gold medal game, which came on a Matt Boldy goal in the first period.
Hughes will now return to the Minnesota Wild, where he has registered three goals and 34 points since being acquired in a blockbuster trade with the Canucks in mid-December.
