It hasn’t taken Quinn Hughes very long to set new records for the Minnesota Wild.
The former Vancouver Canucks captain has now played 10 games for his new team. And on Friday night, the 26-year-old did something never seen before in 25 years of Wild hockey.
Hughes piled up four assists on Friday for the Wild in a 5-2 win over the Anaheim Ducks. That made him the first defenceman in franchise history to record four helpers in a single game.

Since joining the Wild, Hughes now has 11 points in 10 games. That’s second-most among defencemen during the stretch, trailing only Lane Hutson of the Montreal Canadiens.
“You’re a little bit passive at the start, you want to fit in, you’re getting to know everyone,” Hughes said following Minnesota’s win.
“Coming to the fourth or third best team in the league, it’s not about you. But, at a certain point, they traded a lot for me, so you’ve just gotta be yourself and find that fine line.ā
“I think that I’m shooting the puck a little bit more today and not being as passive, and playing the way I normally would the past couple of years.”
No team in the NHL has more points than the Wild since they traded for Hughes back on Dec. 12th. Minnesota has only lost once in regulation during that stretch, going 8-1-2.
Only the Buffalo Sabres and Colorado Avalanche have a better points percentage since Dec. 12, with both teams going 8-0-0.
The Canucks actually have the NHL’s 14th-best record since the Hughes trade, going 5-3-1 since dealing their captain. However, they’re 1-3-1 in their last five games after winning four straight contests following the deal.
Not only did Hughes set a Wild franchise record on Friday night, but he became the first defenceman in Minnesota history to record four points in a game since Mat Dumba did so back on March 29, 2018.
