If you take your live theatre with a side of gratuitous gore, you’re probably pretty limited in your show choices. But dust off your boomsticks and chainsaws, because Evil Dead: The Musical is returning to Vancouver for a second run starting May 12th at the Waterfront Theatre on Granville Island.
The musical, based on Sam Raimi’s (best known as the director of the Spider-Man movies) low-budget cult classic Evil Dead trilogy, tells the story of 5 college students who visit an abandoned cabin in the woods and unleash an ancient evil that turns them all into demons. It’s up to Ash (the housewares employee immortalized by Bruce Campbell in all 3 movies) to save them all with the power of MUSIC. Also? Chainsaws.
It’s the only musical I know of with a splatter zone (attendees sitting in the first 3 rows are advised to dress down because there will be blood, and copious amounts of it) and the reviews are unanimously declaring it hilarious, campy fun. I’ll definitely be in attendance when the show comes to town; if you want to join me, tickets are available at http://evildeadtour.com/vancouver/buytickets/.
Evil Dead: The Musical runs at Waterfront Theatre from May 3rd-6th and May 17th-20th, 2012.
