B.C. residents have thoughts about weekend visit from Elon Musk

Controversial figure and Tesla CEO Elon Musk was in B.C. over the weekend, and a few theories are circulating for why he was here.

According to ElonJet, a service that tracks everywhere Musk travels, he landed in Vancouver, where he allegedly once worked as a lumberjack, on the evening of Aug. 15.

Emily Lowan, with the BC Green Party, seemingly corroborated those details in a post on X, also sharing a picture of him. Travel info suggests that he went to the B.C. coast after landing in Vancouver.

Her post, along with other reports online, suggests he was in town to visit James Murdoch. James’ father is the billionaire media mogul Rupert Murdoch, who was the former CEO of Fox News, among other major accolades in the media world.

Lowan’s post saw a lot of reaction, some of it from Musk supporters.

Others weren’t so supportive of Musk’s visit.

After his B.C. visit, ElonJet shows that Musk travelled back south, to Washington state.

According to James Murdoch’s online profile, he’s a board member for Tesla Inc., which is fuelling some of the theories about Musk’s alleged visit to his coastal home. A 2017 Globe and Mail report suggested that the Murdoch home is only accessible by boat or plane.

Australian Financial Review shared some additional details about the estate in a 2017 story, which included that the property was purchased for around $1.3 million and that it features a 1,300-foot landing strip and a 100-foot dock for large boats and float planes. There’s also apparently a floating restaurant that can seat 25 people.

Other details about the B.C. Murdoch estate are difficult to come by online.

Musk hasn’t shared any details about his visit on X, the social media platform he owns.

Daily Hive has contacted SpaceX, Neuralink, and Tesla for information relating to Musk’s visit to B.C.
