The Vancouver Canucks’ playoff hopes may have taken a serious blow this morning versus the New York Rangers.
Though the Canucks game versus the Rangers is still underway, there is big concern. Roughly half way through the second period, Elias Pettersson was kicked out of a faceoff and was noticed by cameras wincing as he went to line up on the wing. Shortly afterward, he was spotted heading down the tunnel to the Canucks dressing room.

The 26-year-old was able to return later in the period, but was not spotted on the bench when the third period got underway.
That isn’t the only bad news, either, as Nils Höglander was also absent on the Canucks bench to begin the third period. Both have been ruled out for the remainder of the outing.
The injury for Pettersson comes at an awful time, as he had been playing his best hockey of the season as of late, entering today’s game on a six-game point streak which saw him three goals and nine points. Höglander had also been heating up as of late with six points in his latest six outings.
The Canucks have had injury troubles all season long, and are already without Filip Chytil, Thatcher Demko, and Noah Juulsen, who is out for the season. They are in a tight battle with the St. Louis Blues, Calgary Flames, and Utah Hockey Club for a wild-card position, and losing both Pettersson and Hoglander for any extended period of time would put a huge blow in their chances.
