Sportsnet announces broadcast team for Edmonton Oilers-Florida Panthers Stanley Cup Final

The Edmonton Oilers are going to the Stanley Cup Final — and so is one of their most beloved media members.
Today, Sportsnet confirmed their Stanley Cup Final broadcast team, with Gene Principe being picked as the in-rink reporter alongside Chris Cuthbert on play-by-play and Craig Simpson on colour commentary.
While Principe has been a staple at Edmonton games since joining Sportsnet in 2001, he hasn’t always been picked by the network to cover the team on television deeper into the playoffs.
Last year, Kyle Bukauskas worked both the Western Conference Final and Stanley Cup Final as the in-rink reporter.
Given Principe’s tendency to work props and silly one-liners into his coverage, we can only assume that he’ll have a series of fastballs lined up for next week.
“I thought to myself, ‘People come home from work, they’ve had a good day or bad day, everyone’s got their issues to deal with,’” said Principe in a 2024 interview with Offside about his coverage style. “I thought when they turn on the TV, I want to put them in a good mood and set the tone positively.
“There was the decade of darkness where [I] felt like I really had to do it, there is no darkness now, it’s all light with Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, and company, but I’ve just kind of kept doing it,” he added.
Edmonton have home ice advantage in the Final, starting with Game 1 next week at Rogers Place.
