Edmonton Oilers lose Stanley Cup in Florida for second year in a row
The Edmonton Oilers have suffered the ultimate heartbreak for the second straight year.
The Oilers once again failed to reach the pinnacle of the hockey world, as the Florida Panthers defeated them 5-1 to hoist the Stanley Cup.

Similar to what we saw in Game 5, this game was all Panthers, as they went up 1-0 and wound up holding a 5-0 lead before Vasily Podkolzin was able to break Sergei Bobrovsky’s shutout bid late in the third period.
While the entire Panthers team dominated in this one, it was Sam Reinhart who really took over. The 29-year-old scored four goals in the outing, including the opener less than five minutes into the opening frame.

As for the Oilers, they were quiet offensively yet again after scoring just two goals in Game 5. Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl were unable to generate any sort of offence, as their struggles playing in the Amerant Bank Arena continued on Tuesday night.
Despite Reinhart’s outstanding performance in Game 6, however, it was Sam Bennett taking home the Conn Smythe. The 28-year-old had a historic playoff run, scoring 15 goals and 22 points in 24 outings.

Though this series ended in a blowout game, it was one for the books, with three of the six games going to overtime. While there is plenty of time to go before next year’s Stanley Cup Final, it could very well be these same two teams going head-to-head once again, given what they’ve proven they are capable of over the past two seasons.
