ECO Fashion Week 2011

Dec 19 2017, 12:50 pm

Vancouver’s second Eco Fashion Week was officially launched today at the Shangri-La Hotel. With a mission to promote fashion created with a sense of responsibility towards the environment from start to finish, this event is a perfect match for Vancouver, a city that aims to be the cleanest city in the world before the decade is done.

The aim of the EFW team, led by Myriam Laroche, is not only to promote environmentally friendly processes in the creation and advertising of fashion but also to be more socially responsible when it comes to trade and manufacturing. The scope of the event has undoubtedly become more global since it’s premiere last fall and has certainly helped to put Vancouver on the map of the fashion world.

Mayor Gregor Robertson attended today’s event to welcome the organizers and designers to Vancouver, to reiterate the importance of “green” fashion in today’s world and finally to explain that the city of Vancouver is ready to offer unlimited support for such initiatives.

The first runway show of the week was by Vancouver’s own Jason Matlo, his first since 2005. His ready-to-wear designs showed that Eco Fashion can also be modern and sleek.  Throughout the week you’ll be able to see many different ways in which fashion can also be environmentally friendly. Tickets for some of the shows are still available.
