Eco-Friendly Beauty Finds In Vancouver

Dec 19 2017, 5:44 pm

Thanks to several requests for an article about eco-friendly makeup lines, here you go! I’ll have to admit it wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be to find local, green beauty products but I came up with a few.

From cruelty free to vegan friendly products packed full of pigment, Vancouver’s beauty world is a force to be reckoned with!  I haven’t tried any of these products for myself but once I do I’ll be sure to review them and let you all know what I think of them!

Ilia Beauty

Ilia first launched its line of 6 Tinted Lip Conditioners in Vancouver, Canada in 2011. Since then the company has expanded its line and now carries over 40 different products. Ilia prides itself on superior colour performance and its ability to help nourish/repair the skin.

Sasha referred to her roots in branding and focused on the visual esthetic of the line and then went on to reach out to organic chemists and suppliers to create an ethical product – no animal testing for Ilia… their products are human tested! Due to the beeswax content in Ilia products, they are not vegan friendly. These products are also gluten AND dairy free! To view products, visit the Ilia website.

Ilia Beauty Products are available at Beauty Mark (Yaletown), Curlique Beauty (Robson and Homer) and of course at Eco Diva Beauty!

Sappho Cosmetics

This eco-conscious organic makeup line is dedicated to fully disclosing the ingredients of their products. From using essential oils to preserve their foundations to being chock full of antioxidants, Sappho is trying to minimize their footprint as they grow.

Most products from this line are vegan and all products are free of parabens, phthalates, gluten, mineral oil, talc and dimethicone.  Sappho is also made in North America and packaged for recyclability. To learn more about their products visit the Sappho Cosmetics website.

Sappho Cosmetics are available at Curlique Beauty located at the corner of Robson and Homer. For a list of locations that carry Sappho products click here.

Savile Beauty

Savile describes itself as a holistic beauty brand driven by the principles of clean, natural and organic living. Each product is ethically handcrafted and has a customized formula with the intention of serving your skin, body and our planet.

Savile Beauty is 100% cruelty free and is also Leaping Bunny approved, meaning they do not test on animals, yay! They also have their ‘Pure-fection’ line that is 100% vegan! I found the concept of their Bespoke Services to be extremely interesting.

This service helps you tailor makeup products to fit you and your makeup routine.  Savile sees buying products “off the shelf” as a thing of the past. They can help you customize the color, texture and formula of a product in order for it to suit you best! Learn more about the Bespoke Service here.

Savile Beauty products are available at their online store.

Affera Cosmetics

Locally made in Burnaby, Affera makes 100% mineral makeup that is chemical free and vegan friendly! They have lightweight foundations that contain a natural sun-block and anti-inflammatory/healing properties that will aid in reducing redness and healing acne. They also have a skincare line that is made with raw, natural ingredients and free of preservatives.  For more information on Aferra Cosmetics and the products they carry, click here.

Affera Cosmetics are available at On the Fringe Hair Design (4166 Mainstreet)
