B.C. Premier David Eby, who is less than a month away from a provincial election, recently clapped back at some comments U.S. President Donald Trump made about Canada by issuing a message for Americans.
Much has been made of Eby’s stance on Trump and U.S. politics, using it as primary fuel for why he declared a snap election, taking place on Oct. 24, one week after municipal elections around the province on Oct. 17.
When Eby made his announcement, he told British Columbians that the province is in an “existential moment” and said he had three pillars, including stand up, protect, and build.
Eby brought attention to the idea that Trump has been threatening Canadian sovereignty.
Throughout the year, Eby also hammered home that B.C. would not carry U.S. alcohol, despite pressure from the Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney earlier this year. He hasn’t wavered from his position on U.S. alcohol since the election announcement.
At a White House press conference, Trump recently made some comments about Canada, calling it “one of the worst countries in the entire world.”
In response, Eby or his team typed up a message for social media.
Thousands shared their reactions to Eby’s comment, and the opinions differ depending on which platform you’re on. On X, the sentiments are very negative toward Eby, while on Facebook, he’s seeing a lot more support.
“Then he fell asleep,” someone said on Facebook, commenting on the online allegations that Trump has been falling asleep at his press conferences.
Another Facebook comment said, “So so grateful we live in Canada 
we are so fortunate.”
Someone else responded more directly to Eby’s sassy comment, saying, “It was only a situationship anyway!
On X, things were a little more hostile for the BC NDP leader, though there were still many sharing their Canadian pride.

Others criticized Eby for making his platform too focused on Trump. Another X user called it “fear porn.”
Eby has made some non-Trump campaign announcements, including a notable one yesterday about the province’s resource sector. Eby said he and the BC NDP would double critical mineral exports and expand the Port of Prince Rupert.
Today, the BC NDP announced the “largest private sector investment in Canadian history” after a final green light for the expanded LNG Canada project.
“This is a big win that will create good jobs and generate the long-term prosperity we need to deliver stronger public services for all British Columbians,” Eby said, adding that the project would generate an estimated $50 billion for B.C. “to fund public services people rely on.”
This isn’t the first time, and it won’t be the last, that Eby has thrown shade at Trump and his politics. Earlier this month, Eby introduced new sassy B.C. border signs referencing some of Trump’s comments.
Angus Reid did some quick polling following Eby’s election announcement, and it didn’t look great for the BC NDP leader.
