Located in East Van near East Hastings and just before Clark, lies Vancouver’s newest mural.

Created by local artist Nick Gregson the mural features an odd pairing of rappers Tupac Shakur and Eric (Eazy-E) Wright alongside NDP leader Jack Layton, with the words “Welcome to eastvan” written across the top.

Vancouver doesn’t have much of a history when it comes to paying homage to rappers. After all hip-hop in general has only traditionally been a stronghold in the south east side of the city in the early ’90s.

But that doesn’t mean Gregson’s piece is the first to grace our streets.

There was the DJ Khaled mural near Leeside Skate Park by Def3 and Naksone, but of course the city buffed it. The duo was also behind an ASAP Rocky mural in Burnaby, that didn’t last too long either.

Let’s hope Vancity’s latest sticks around for a little bit longer.
