10 reasons to face your fears and participate in Easter Seals Drop Zone’s 10th Anniversary

Maybe you’ve walked, ran or biked for a cause, but the time has come to do something that really scares you, challenges you and adds another adrenaline-fuelled experience to your resume.

The Easter Seals Drop Zone, Vancouver’s original rappelling event, is celebrating its 10th anniversary on September 9. The annual fundraising event challenges you to face your fears as you make your way down a 20-storey office building (superhero gear highly encouraged) – all in support of Easter Seals BC.

Here are the 10 reasons why you should participate in Easter Seals Drop Zone.

1. Check rappelling off your bucket list

Checking items off your bucket list isn’t always easy, and that’s why we love this event. Not only will you be rappelling in support of Easter Seals BC, you’ll also earn bragging rights for the rest of your life.

2. Conquer your fears

Yes, 20 storeys sounds intimidating, but you’ll never know how easy it is unless you try. Push yourself out of your comfort zone and find the courage to conquer your fear of heights.

3. Give kids the best week of their year

Time and time again, Easter Seals camps throughout B.C. prove to be the best week of each camper’s year. The week-long camping experience focuses on abilities rather than disabilities, and campers are encouraged to participate in fun activities that they may never have tried before including climbing, canoeing, wheelchair basketball and leadership training.

4. Give B.C. families a home away from home

Not every family is fortunate enough to have a hospital close by. Thanks to community support and funding from initiatives like this, the Easter Seals House is open 24/7 to provide families with a home away from home while their child seeks the hospital care they need.

5. Invest in the coolest work break of your life

Reward yourself by breaking up your work day with the most life-changing work break you’ll ever take. Have your co-workers cheer you on and meet you at the bottom for a positive start or end to your day.

6. Take in the best view in town

The view of downtown Vancouver doesn’t get much better than this – especially as you watch your reflection work your way down the mirrored skyscraper at 999 West Hastings. Rappelling selfies, anyone?

7. Be a superhero for a day

Easter Seals campers love to dress up, and as you rappel down 20 storeys, so should you. Sport your best superhero attire (or DIY costume of choice) to make your trip down in style.

8. Meet amazing individuals

After your epic work day, clear your schedule for a night of drinks and mingling to meet your fellow participants. Who knows, you may just see someone you know!

9. Jazz up your daily exercise

Workout routines can become repetitive and boring if you don’t change them up once in a while. Thankfully, rappelling is full body workout, so be prepared to work those muscles for 20 storeys.

10. Spread awareness for a great cause

Easter SealsDrop Zone requires a minimum fundraising total of $1,000, which means you’ll have to share the Easter Seals story and history of giving with your friends, loved ones and fellow fundraisers to encourage people to invest in you and your rappel. The more awareness you share surrounding this incredible cause, the better.
