A mid-afternoon shooting in East Vancouver has sent a young man to hospital in serious condition.
According to the Vancouver Police Department, the incident occurred at approximately 3 p.m. today near Nanaimo and Dundas streets. Officers responded to the incident and discovered a 19-year-old man with gunshot wounds.
Few details are available at this time, but initial findings indicate that the incident may be targeted and related to the drug trade. At this time, no arrests have been made.
“Shootings are usually targeted at individuals who are involved in high-risk behaviour associated to guns, drugs or gangs – this attack appears no different,” said VPD Constable Brian Montague in a statement. “However, when they take place in the middle of the day and in residential neighbourhoods, they put everyone at risk.”
Police are looking to speak to any witnesses and canvassing CCTV footage of the area to help identify potential suspects. Anyone with information that could assist investigators is asked to contact the VPD’s Major Crime Section at 604-717-2541 or Crime Stoppers’ anonymous hotline at 1-800-222-8477.
