East Vancouver residents to lose Canada Post outlet before Christmas

As Canada Post continues to reduce its retail network, a notable East Vancouver post office location will be closing later this year.

Since 2025, there have been multiple post office locations closed in Vancouver, including the one in Chinatown at 418 Main St., and the one at the Woodward’s building in the Gastown neighbourhood.

Now the Canada Post location on Commercial Drive in Little Italy will be closing this December.

Daily Hive was tipped off that the Little Italy Post Office, located at 1424 Commercial Dr., will close permanently on Dec. 22, 2026.

A sign posted on the door of the post office notes that the closest Canada Post locations to that one are located at 1755 Broadway Ave. and 2746 East Hastings St.

The Broadway location is approximately a 15-minute walk away, while the Hastings location is over a 30-minute walk, or just over a five-minute drive (20 minutes via transit). It sounds like this closure wasn’t initiated by Canada Post itself.

We reached out to Canada Post, which informed us that the dealer that was operating that specific postal outlet advised Canada Post that they were closing the store.

“We are currently in the process of reviewing service requirements and assessing available options in this area. Once we confirm the closing date, we will ensure to notify customers well in advance following our standard process,” Canada Post told Daily Hive.

Canada Post has been undergoing some major changes over the past year, including ending door-to-door delivery in certain regions.

We learned earlier this year that door-to-door delivery was going to end in some parts of Metro Vancouver. Over 40,000 addresses were going to be impacted by that change.

Canada Post has been making changes in an effort to modernize its services.

“Canada Post understands converting dense urban core areas poses additional challenges. These areas will be addressed in later stages of the multi-year conversion program,” Canada Post said at the time.

In April, when those changes were announced for Metro Vancouver, Canada Post said it was working on a multi-year transformation, which would include modernizing retail. All of the changes were in an effort to protect the postal service, according to the postal operator.

“We’re committed to moving forward in a thoughtful way that prioritizes service for all Canadians, while protecting access to vital postal services in rural, remote and Indigenous communities. We also remain committed to treating employees with respect throughout this process,” Canada Post said.
