Vancouver police are investigating the city’s 15th homicide of the year.
Around 8 am Saturday, the VPD received a 911 call from someone who had just found an elderly woman dead in her East Vancouver apartment.
Investigators from the VPD Major Crimes Section and BC Coroners Service have classified the woman’s death as a homicide.
Her identity has not been released. Investigators have only said the victim was in her 80s, and her apartment was near Kingsway Avenue and Kerr Street.
“It is still very early in this investigation and our Homicide Unit is collecting information to help determine motive and who may be responsible,” said Constable Jason Doucette in a statement released late Saturday night.
“While our officers continue to piece together what took place, we are reminding the public to report suspicious behaviour to 911 immediately.”
Police are looking for dash-cam footage from anyone who may have been driving near Kingsway Avenue and Kerr Street between midnight and 6 am on Saturday morning — or was in the area and saw anything suspicious.
Anyone with information is asked to call detectives at 604-717-2500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
