Pig-culiar Vancouver development ad raises eyebrows

Jan 7 2025, 9:46 pm

An advertisement for a development in East Vancouver features a fascinating depiction of daily life that has some people talking and laughing.

The ad comes from a collaboration between Magnum, Ergas Group, and Fabric Living.

If you take a quick glance at the left portion of the photo, it appears someone is walking a dog. However, upon closer inspection, you can see that it’s actually a pig that’s being walked.

The Cut

Many assumed it was an AI blunder, but we’ve heard from Magnum, and that’s not the case.

The development, located near Nanaimo and Grandview Highway in the Renfrew-Collingwood area, is called The Cut in East Vancouver. It features “single-family-inspired townhomes” designed “to build a sense of community and connection.”

We asked Magnum if it was an AI blunder, and it responded adamantly that it was not, but was instead Fabric Living and Ergas Group’s attempt at being fun and different. They also wanted to show that The Cut is a “place where you can be authentically yourself,” even if that includes walking a pig.

Magnum says it embodies East Vancouver, a neighbourhood with lots of personality and character.

We also heard from Fabric Living president Jordan MacDonald.

“We wanted to do something fun, different and NOT BORING to celebrate the eccentricity of East Van,” MacDonald told Daily Hive.

“We originally got the idea from Salvadore Dali walking his anteater in Paris. It’s that unique, eccentric character that gives life its colour.”

The ad has at least one resident excited.

Others remarked that it was a nice change of pace from the usual type of development ad you see around Vancouver.

Another user chimed in and suggested they’ve actually seen someone walking a pig in Vancouver.

Another Redditor merely said, “Incredible.”

“East Van is an amazing place to live, full of personality, and we wanted to show that at The Cut, you can be unapologetically yourself. Our goal is to break the mould of assembly-line living, and maybe that means walking your pig on the greenway!” Macdonald added.

You’re probably no stranger to seeing development ads all around Metro Vancouver. Do you agree that this is a nice change of pace from the typical ad?
