East Vancouver artist and creator of one of the finer public art pieces in the city, The Monument For East Vancouver aka The East Van Cross, briefly describes the history behind the symbol and how the art piece was made. Have a look and gain some knowledge.

As someone that was born and raised in East Van, the symbol of pride was everywhere. It was tagged in back alleys, on store fronts, etched in school desks and even seen on t-shirts. There was always a certain non religious appeal to it and I’m glad it’s been recognized in the form of public art as a permanent fixture in the city’s streetscape.
