A record number of people voted in the advance polls this past weekend.
According to Elections Canada, almost 3.6 million Canadians took advantage of early voting, a 71 per cent increase from the 2011 Federal election. The momentum was particularly strong on campuses where students took advantage of “pop-up” campus polling locations.
“The fact that students and young people are voting in record numbers is phenomenal. All my friends who voted early said it felt good,” said Simka Marshall, chairperson of the Canadian Federation of Students BC.
“In an election this close, where critical local races will come down to the wire, every vote really will make a difference. I think young people understand that we can shape the outcome of this election by getting out there and voting.”
If you haven’t voted yet you can vote Monday, October 19. Find out how and where to vote at www.elections.ca.
