A 35-year old man has been arrested for harassing and extorting Amanda Todd, who later committed suicide after years of mental anguish.

The Netherlands’ Omroep Brabant reports a connection has been made to the man. He made his first court appearance in Amsterdam yesterday.

According to the Dutch broadcaster, the suspect had dozens of victims around the world, including in the Netherlands, Great Britain and the United States. Based on seized material, such as a computer and router, there may have been as many as forty victims in the Netherlands alone.

The man is facing charges of sexual assault, making and distributing child pornography, fraud, computer trespassing and possession of hard drugs. Police in the Netherlands are working closely with foreign police authorities to determine the full extent of the crimes and offences.

Port Coquitlam’s Amanda Todd was just 15 years old when she killed herself in October 2012. After flashing her breasts to a stranger on a live webcam, she experienced years of sexual exploitation and bullying.

The individual then blackmailed her with threats of exposing the topless photo to her friends and family unless she performed additional “shows.”

A month prior to her death, she posted a 9-minute video on YouTube that showed her using flash cards to tell her story of being bullied. The video and news of her death weeks later went viral around the world and captured the attention of international media.
