Dreams do come true: Harjit Sajjan and Ryan Reynolds meet at the White House

May 28 2016, 6:57 am

On Thursday, history was made. No, we’re not talking about Justin Trudeau becoming the first standing Prime Minister to visit the White House in nearly two decades – it’s something much bigger than that.

Our badass defence minister Harjit Sajjan accompanied Trudeau to the White House and met fellow Vancouverite Ryan Reynolds in the process.

Pictures were taken. Facebook posts were made. Magic happened.

To add to the splendour, this was Sajjan’s photo caption: “How badass is this, Canada? Two Vancouverites in Washington, DC.”

Oh, Harjit, way to win our hearts over once again.

In case you’re living under a rock, here’s why our defence minister is such a badass: a Vancouver resident since the mid-70s, Sajjan was deployed four times while in the Canadian army, three of which were in Afghanistan, and he’s the first Sikh person to command a Canadian regiment. Beyond that, he’s received 13 honours, including the Order of Military Merit and the Meritorious Service Medal.

He was also a police officer with the VPD for 11 years and served as a detective in the Gang Crime Unit. After getting elected, Sajjan told Vancity Buzz that his main focus as defence minister will be on youth.

Swoon.

And yes, in case you were wondering, he also met President Obama, who seemed delighted to be meeting such a badass.

Reynolds also had the chance to meet the Prime Minister, who apparently is a great hugger.
