Drake predictions: Which surprise guests to expect at his Vancouver shows

Sep 3 2016, 1:21 am

It’s been a while since Drake graced Rogers Arena.

Almost three years, to be exact.

The Toronto rapper has taken the world by storm since, and returned to play Squamish Valley Music Festival back in 2015, but this is Drake’s first Vancouver appearance in a while. And throughout his Summer Sixteen tour, Drake has been having surprise guests join him along the way.

In Toronto, during his annual OVO Fest, he had Kanye West and Rihanna join him. In Detroit last month, Drake brought Eminem on stage with him. Kanye was his guest once again during the Chicago stop of the tour. In Nashville, Shania Twain was at his show – although did not join him on stage. And in Columbus, he brought out LeBron James – despite his loyalty to the Toronto Raptors.

My WCW even though it’s Monday. Shania. 🌹✅😍

So with his upcoming sold-out appearances in Vancouver on September 17 and 18, we thought of who he can possibly have as a guest in our city.

1. Mayor Gregor Robertson

This may sound weird, but we know he’s in town. And he’s also known to DJ (some have called him “DJ G-Force”). And considering the celebrity status politicians have these days, you never know…

2. Michael Bublé

Last year, Burnaby-born Michael Bublé told a reporter in the Emirates that he had never met Drake but he’s really proud of him for representing Canada in a different genre. And being a local, we can’t help but wonder if this fateful meeting will happen on stage at Rogers Arena. *the thinking face emoji*

3. Keys N’Krates

Toronto’s Keys N’Krates have been touring globally, and sharing the stage with some of the biggest names in electronic music, but also bands and hip hop artists. As Toronto artists seem to also stick together and support each other, these guys might be a runner up as guests. They had a single with OVO affiliate P Reign last year, and will be in BC for Rifflandia while Drake is in town.

4. ILoveMakonnen

ILoveMakonnen’s success began with his single “Tuesday,” which also marked the start of his partnership with OVO Sound. Fast forward two years later, and it appears the relationship with Drake’s label has ended. But Makonnen is currently on tour, and will be in town eerily close to when Drake is here… We could be goin’ up, on a Saturday. And/or Sunday. Plus, he was pictured with Drake’s dad recently.

5. Of course, Rihanna

We found out that Rihanna will be in Vancouver to film Bates Motel. The filming is set to take place in the coming weeks. And Drake has not stopped gushing about his admiration for RiRi since the recent MTV Awards – see billboard image below. And since she’s already joined him in Toronto, and since she may actually be in the city, we may be pleasantly surprised with her possible/probable/potential appearance at his Vancouver show. (AKA please please, let it be Rihanna).

When he extra ❤🏆!!!

At the end of the day, whether or not Drake brings guests along with him, we’re pretty happy to have him back in Vancouver.

So welcome back, Champagne Papi.
