Concord Pacific is donating $1 million for a new paddling centre on False Creek for local dragon boaters.

The company is a long-time sponsor of the dragon boating festival and presented Mayor Gregor Robertson with the hefty donation.

“This million dollar contribution by Concord to the creation of a new paddling centre is a big boost for Vancouver’s dragon boat community,” said Mayor Robertson in a press release, “and makes False Creek an even more desirable neighbourhood to live in. Concord has been a long-time supporter of dragon boating, along with several city-wide events and charities, and their contribution is a great example of how new development can create real benefits for local neighbourhoods.”

Chair of the Canadian International Dragon Boat Festival Society Peter Wong is pleased with the contribution.

“We are grateful to Concord Pacific and the City of Vancouver for their generous support. Our society and the sport of dragon boating have worked hard to become intrinsic contributors to the animation of False Creek and the culture of Vancouver. We look forward to our continuing partnership and paddling together on the waters of False Creek.”
