According to Vancouver Police, the incident occurred at the intersection of Cambie Street and Dunsmuir Street in downtown Vancouver. A red Hyundai sedan travelling north on Cambie Street made a left turn onto Dunsmuir Street, and it collided into a southbound grey Nissan Pathfinder.

Five passengers of the Hyundai, all family members, were taken to hospital with injuries ranging from minor to serious. Sadly, a 78-year-old woman in the backseat died in hospital.

The two occupants of the Pathfinder were taken to hospital for the treatment of their minor injuries. They have since been released.

The VPD’s Collision Investigation Unit is working to determine the cause and circumstances of the tragic collision. At this time, speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors.

This is the 12th fatal collision in Vancouver of 2017.
