Downtown Eats: The Keg Thurlow

Dec 19 2017, 12:50 pm

Looking for a quick way to warm up? Head up to the Keg Thurlow for a bowl of French Onion Soup! I did this last week and was positively sweating by the time I was done. They also give you their freshly baked sourdough, which is always a treat. I try not to eat all of it, knowing that I won’t be able to finish my lunch if I do, but that whipped butter just asks to be slathered onto the warm bread.

I have to say this was my second French Onion Soup of the week after having one at Boston Pizza and this was better by far. I love how they really pile on the cheese and then broil the heck out of it so that it keeps the soup underneath piping hot. By the time you get to the bottom of the bowl, you’ll have a nice sweat going, promise.

The other thing we ordered (to share) was the Hot Prime Rib sandwich. Served open-faced with a very generous ladle of gravy, this was really good too. It’s essentially their Beef Dip sandwich, but instead of having to dip it into the au jus, they’ve taken care of that sauciness factor for you.

Served with your choice of salad or fries, we went the healthy way and got the side Caesar salad. As you can see, this was a very generous portion, since this was the shared portion.
Note: They are only open for lunch on weekdays, but not until 3:30 on the weekends.
