Downtown Eats: Cactus Club

One of my favourite go-to spots, Cactus Club, is where I know I can satisfy my Chicken Wings and Dry Ribs craving, and that’s all I get. However, I went with my stepdad once and we ordered some new dishes that are worth a try.

We still got the dry ribs, not getting them would be sacrilegious for me. Tossed with a generous serving of sea salt and cracked pepper, these are salty spicy little nuggets of meat and bones. One thing I have started doing is to ask for their Thai dipping sauce for their wings. I find the mixture of sweetness really works with the ribs.

My stepdad also wanted to try an RF specialty, so we got the Beef Carpaccio served with crostinis. The beef was sliced really thinlyk and you can still see the peppercorn crust! It’s piled with capers, parmesan cheese slices and pickled shallots. And as noted earlier, it comes with some crostini, except they were almost too crunchy, like they had been reheated one too many times.

For our entrée, we went for the fajitas. Whoa, I haven’t had so much fun at Cactus in a long time. I love playing with my food and these fajitas were amazing. Our sizzling plate came loaded with grilled veggies and some beans, with a Cajun chicken breast sliced on top. Accompanied with salsa, shredded cheese, sour cream and some lettuce as well, there was more than enough filling here for the four tortillas they give you.
So it goes to show, it’s worth trying something new, even at an old favourite.
