Sometime between last Thursday evening and Friday morning, 50 dogs inside metal cages were abandoned outside the gates of two Metro Vancouver animal shelters.
Twelve dogs were found abandoned at a New Westminster shelter and another 38 dogs were abandoned at a Richmond shelter. According to officials at both cities, the animals found at both facilities are in healthy condition.
RCMP and the BC SPCA are currently investigating the two incidents. The dogs spent an entire night outdoors during last Thursday’s/Friday’s lightning and torrential rain storm, which was likely a frightening experience for the animals.
Officials are not too concerned with the prospect of the dogs being unable to find new homes. There has been significant interest from the public with adopting the animals.
