This past week was quite possibly the best for Vancouver music fans in a long, long time. For many, it culminated with the crowning of the number 1 party rock DJ in the world at the RedBull Thre3style World Finals. The finals took place in the famous Commodore Ballroom last night in Vancouver and the winner was Vancouver’s own DJ Hedspin!

As the crowd waited with anticipation, Hedspin’s set did not disappoint. He kicked things off with “Hit The Road Jack” and the rest was history. Set highlights included Rye Rye’s “Wassup Wassup” mixed in with Street Fighter samples from different countries, an ode to the other contestants in the world finals and a shout out to local legend Nardwuar.

The crowd was definitely hyped by the set as they cheered and crowd surfed throughout.

In the end the RedBull Thre3style judges Young Guru, DJ Premier, and Pete Rock awarded DJ Hedpsin the best party rock DJ in the world and Vancouver was left breathless after a week of amazing shows. Oh and there’s still the final show of Jay and Ye’s Watch The Throne tour tonight.

A cray week in Vancouver for music, especially for fans of the urban music scene, a scene that seems to be picking up steam in Lotusland.
