Disney has released the first official trailer for the upcoming 2015 release of Cinderella, starring Cate Blanchet, Downton Abbey’s Lily James and Game of Thrones’ Richard Madden. The film is directed by Kenneth Branagh, famed Shakespearean actor and director of recent blockbuster Thor.
Cinderella was filmed in Buckinghamshire, England, where Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and Maleficent were also filmed.
The live-action movie follows the plot of the famous animated classic, which was originally released by Disney in 1950 and rated the ninth-greatest animated film of all time in 2008 by the American Film Institute.
Here is Disney’s description of the plot:
The story of “Cinderella” follows the fortunes of young Ella (Lily James) whose merchant father remarries following the death of her mother. Eager to support her loving father, Ella welcomes her new stepmother (Cate Blanchett) and her daughters Anastasia (Holliday Grainger) and Drisella (Sophie McShera) into the family home. But, when Ella’s father unexpectedly passes away, she finds herself at the mercy of a jealous and cruel new family.
The film is set to be released March 13, 2015.
