Prepare to make another journey to the fictional sultanate of Agrabah. It turns out Genie made the wish of many fans come true.
Aladdin will live on, with Disney working to develop a prequel to the 1992 animated film — but this time, in live-action.
The Hollywood Reporter uncovered today that the centuries-old folk tale featuring Robin Williams playing the voice of Genie will be revisited in a movie that is currently only in its early-stages of development.
Aladdin is one of many classic Disney movies that have been revisited in live-action. In April, it was discovered that Disney is also working on a Winnie the Pooh live-action film.
As a prequel, the new Aladdin movie will focus on the realm of the Genies and explain the story of how Aladdin’s Genie ended up trapped in a lamp.
The movie will be a live-action comedy written by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift.
In relative news — just today — the cast of Disney’s Aladdin on Broadway showed up to the White House to perform in front of the First Lady as part of the 2015 Kids’ State Dinner.
