Luis Rubiales could have faded away quietly from the spotlight.
Instead, he wrote a book about how the soccer world conspired against him after he was charged with sexual assault for kissing a female soccer player against her will.
Rubiales came under intense scrutiny back in 2023 when he kissed Spanish striker Jenni Hermoso on the lips after Spain won the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
“Since that day, my life has been on standby,” Hermoso said back in February.

Rubiales was charged by the Spanish courts with sexual assault in February. He was ordered to pay a fine worth more than €10,000, and he was also sentenced to stay at least 200 metres away from Hermoso. The 48-year-old was also barred from having any communication with Hermoso for at least one year.
Pelted with eggs by his own uncle
Based on what happened earlier this week, one man from Rubiales’ own family isn’t too happy with his publication of his book.
At a presentation for his new book, Killing Rubiales, this week in Madrid, Rubiales had eggs thrown at him by a spectator in the crowd.
Luis Rubiales, the former Spanish FA executive who resigned after forcibly kissing a player following Spain’s victory in the 2023 Women’s World Cup, was hit with eggs at an event for his book.

That spectator turned out to be his uncle.
Not only that, it was an uncle with the exact same name as him: Luis Rubiales.
“A man entered who I later saw was my uncle, who is a troubled man, and always has been,” the disgraced soccer boss told reporters following the incident.
The former Spanish soccer player stated in a press release last month that his book is set to provide “documentary evidence not only of his innocence, but also of the highly probable origin of these dirty and false accusations.”
During the court ruling in February, a judge decided that “there was no reason or motive for [Hermoso] to be untruthful in her narration of the facts with the sole purpose of harming Rubiales.”
Rubiales’s uncle was arrested by authorities following the messy incident.
