Vancouver’s Chinatown is going through a change, a change for the good. In fact the entire DTES is undergoing massive change. The 189 Keefer proposal is one of a handful of important projects going on in the neighbourhood. The building, located at Main and Keefer will be 10 floors tall containing 81 residential units and retail at grade. The developer for the project is Solterra and architect is Raffi.
I like the design of the project, just not sure I like it for Chinatown. In order to preserve character both developers and architects need to add elements of the neighbourhood into their developments in Chinatonwn. The clock at the top of this tower seems like an afterthought. Why not a dragon, or Chinese Lantern at the top? Hopefully before this gets the approval some modifications are made. At least it’s not all glass.
