The Vancouver Canucks have had the NHL’s most colourful history, at least in terms of their jerseys.
And, apparently, another sweater is about to be added to the collection.
Reports surfaced in December that the NHL was going to announce a league-wide jersey initiative for the 2026-27 season, with the fresh jerseys set to mimic something recently seen in the NBA.
The NBA has been rolling out “City Edition” jerseys for a few years now. This season, the Toronto Raptors released new jerseys that gave a nod to the 2019 championship-winning squad.
Fanatics, which is in its third season as the official jersey provider to the NHL, recently filed a trademark for the phrase “Hometown Remix,” adding some credibility to the recent speculation.
Since those reports, more details have now emerged about what the new jersey could look like for the Canucks.
A Reddit user who claims to work for a U.S. jersey retailer recently posted what the primary colours will be for each team’s new uniform.
For the Canucks, the colour was navy blue.
Throughout the ever-changing history of Canucks jerseys, they have worn navy blue on a couple of occasions.
One was for their primary jersey, when they switched from the black skate uniforms to the navy blue orca jerseys, with red and silver trim, back in 1997.
They switched to a blue, green, and white base for their primary jerseys beginning in 2008, with the orca crest itself being navy blue.
Vancouver also used a navy blue base for their jerseys twice this decade. There was a partial navy blue fade with the Reverse Retro uniforms in 2021. Vancouver did end up using a straight navy blue base for their Johnny Canuck-themed uniforms in 2022-23.
The Canucks will be aiming for better luck if and when the new alternate jerseys are released.
In 2021, they lost all four contests in which they wore the Sprite-can-esque uniforms. They then proceeded to go 2-6 with the Johnny Canuck-themed jerseys two seasons later.
That brings their record this decade to 2-9-1 while wearing alternate navy blue jerseys, with neither of their two wins coming in regulation.
