Dessert Heaven: Sweetery Cafe + Dessert

Dessert Heaven is a series exploring cafes/shops that offer an extensive variety of desserts to satisfy any sweet tooth – from cupcakes and macarons to cheesecakes and cookies. To end off the month of June with a bang, a nice little visit to Sweetery Cafe + Dessert was made. Not only does Sweetery offer a cute range of desserts, but it also has an impressive variety of lunch items, such as sandwiches, soups, salads and pastries.

Dessert Heaven: Sweetery Cafe + Dessert

Sweetery Cafe + Dessert started out as a catering company and quickly gained more attention during the past year ever since its cafe section opened up front. Every customer is bound to find something that suits their palate and dietary restrictions, such as gluten-free and nut-free options. The staff favourites are the Double Baked Almond Croissant  and the Fudgy Brownie. Keep reading to find out which items I was lucky enough to try out during my heavenly visit…

Dessert Heaven: Sweetery Cafe + Dessert
Double Baked Almond Croissant, $4.50

Being a huge fan of buttery croissants and crispy baked almonds, I couldn’t resist getting my hands on one of these babies. The Double Baked Almond Croissant is super crispy on the outside, moist on the inside, and best of all – not overly buttery! All croissants at Sweetery take three full days of hard work to make, and this one here gets that one extra special touch. I highly recommend trying this pastry – made with sliced almonds, powdered sugar, almond paste and a whole lot of love.

Coconut Macaroon, $1.25

That’s right. Macaroon, not macaron. It’s been a while since I’ve seen one of these coconut babies out on the market, given that the French macaron really took over the dessert industry in Vancouver over the past two years. To all you coconut fans out there: this macaroon is ridiculously awesome (and that’s coming from a foodie who isn’t much of a coconut fan herself!). It’s obvious that there’s a million-dollar secret behind the technique to making this fluffy ball of coconut, egg white and sugar.

Dessert Heaven: Sweetery Cafe + Dessert
Blueberry Cheesecake, $6.95

Who wouldn’t love creamy cheesecake in a jar? The thickness of the graham crust is perfect – crumbly at the bottom but moist and dense near the top where it meets the cheesecake. The cake is soft and creamy, and the blueberry topping has just the perfect amount of sweetness.

Dessert Heaven: Sweetery Cafe + Dessert
Tiramisu, $4.95

With intertwining layers of chocolate cake and thick, creamy mascarpone, this tiramisu sure is a dessert that’s hard to pass up on. Not only is the cake soaked in espresso, but Sweetery’s version of the traditional tiramisu also involves a Grand Marnier and vanilla soak. Although the mascarpone cheese and the chocolate cake are both lovely, I would much rather prefer them on their own in order to experience less of a chocolate flavour and more of an espresso kick.

Sweetery Cafe + Dessert is truly a place run by passion, love and a group of amazing people. I’ll most definitely be back to try out their mouthwatering lunch items!

Don’t forget to check out my past Dessert Heaven visits at Luv Cravings and Le Gateau Bake Shop. Until next time – happy dessert hunting!
