Dessert Heaven: Geek Sweets

Dec 19 2017, 4:02 pm

Dessert Heaven is a series exploring cafes/shops that offer an extensive variety of desserts to satisfy any sweet tooth – from cupcakes and macarons to cheesecakes and cookies. To all my geeky dessert lovers out there, I found just the perfect gem for you! Geek Sweets is a home-based bakery offering fully customizable sweets with a geeky flare.

From comic books and video games to movie stars and superheroes, Geek Sweets covers all sorts of designs to meet your never-ending cravings for cupcakes, macarons, cake pops and cookies. The best thing about a Geek Sweets cupcake is the filling; the excitement of biting into one is like that giddy feeling you get when you see your favourite hot barista making your caramel latte at Starbucks (yup, that’s right). Cookie dough and dulce de leche fillings for the chocolate fanatics or homemade lemon curd and strawberry whipped cream for the fruity lovers. The owner’s personal favourite is the newly-released London Fog Cupcake, featuring vanilla bean cake with earl grey tea buttercream. But hmm, onto my personal favourite:

Dessert Heaven: Geek Sweets
Red Velvet Cupcake, $3 each or $30 per dozen

Ok, no surprise here. If you’ve been following my dessert adventures, you might’ve already guessed that a red velvet baby would make an appearance yet again! But this one’s definitely the cutest one. Classic red velvet cake with a hint of cocoa and heavenly cream cheese frosting – adorned with a cute 8-bit Zelda heart. Someone please call the dessert police, we need to arrest this bad boy here. Way. Too. Good.

Almond Joy Cupcake, $4 each of $45 per dozen

Calling all chocolate lovers, the Almond Joy cupcake is a dark chocolate cake with almond buttercream, finished off with shredded coconut, toasted almonds and a chocolate ganache drizzle. Oh, my.

Cherry Cheesecake Macaron, $20 per dozen

Another weakness of mine, macarons. I present to you the lovely cherry cheesecake macaron – red cherry shells sandwiching a thick layer of cream cheese buttercream, filled with cherry compote and sprinkled with graham cracker crumbs. Soft and chewy on the inside, and the shell stays quite sturdy when you bite into it. Mmm…

Fat Elvis Cookie
Fat Elvis Cookie

Cute name or what? Inspired by the famous peanut butter & bacon sandwich known as “the Elvis,” this sweet & savoury cookie is made with a peanut butter base and stuffed with candied bacon pieces. A crunchy and moist cookie with perfectly glazed bacon is quite hard to pass up on.

Orders can be placed by phone or through the website’s online ordering system. You can also check out the calendar of events on the Geek Sweets’ website to find out where these yummy goodies will be popping up next. Until next time, happy dessert hunting!
