Thatcher Demko has recommitted to the Vancouver Canucks, and it’s clear the deal is about more than just the $25.5 million he’ll receive.
Demko signed a three-year extension worth $8.5 million per season, making him one of the highest-paid goalies in the NHL, but on a short-term deal due to his injury history.
Following the announcement, Demko had a message for fans via his Instagram page.
“What it means to be a Vancouver Canuck has never been lost on me,” Demko said.
“From the day I was drafted I have been ALL in and committed to our end goal as a team and as a city. This last calendar year has certainly tested me in many ways but I’ve never been more clear about my desire to be a Canuck and my motivation to get back to the level I know I can find.
“I’m incredibly grateful for this opportunity to continue my tenure in Vancouver.”

Demko chose a photo of him stopping former Canucks teammate Bo Horvat, who commented on the post.
“Congrats brother, well deserved,” Horvat said, mixed in with appropriate eye-roll and heart emojis.
A second-round draft pick by Vancouver in 2014, Demko ranks third all-time in wins by a Canucks goalie (126), behind Roberto Luongo (252) and Kirk McLean (211).
When healthy, the 29-year-old San Diego native has proven to be one of the best goalies in the NHL. That was certainly the case in 2023-24, when he finished as the runner up in Vezina Trophy voting.
