The Delta Police Department nabbed a Metro Vancouver driver for speeding and two more infractions that are a major no-no for drivers with an ‘N.’
Pictures from the Delta Police Traffic Unit suggest that the driver was travelling in a Ford Mustang, a car that indeed goes very fast. In this case, it went too fast, clocked at 121 km/h in a 60 km/h zone.
Another infraction was that the driver had too many passengers in the vehicle. Finally, the Mustang driver did not have his ‘N’ displayed. On top of those infractions, one of the drivers wasn’t wearing their seatbelt.
According to ICBC, the rules allow for “one passenger only (not including immediate family) unless accompanied by a supervisor age 25+ with a valid Class 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 licence.”
The Ford Mustang will now be impounded, and multiple violation tickets have been issued to the Delta ‘N’ driver.
Delta Police said the traffic stop for the speeding driver occurred last night in response to concerns along 72 Avenue.
In response to concerns along 72 Ave, one of our officers stopped a vehicle last night for travelling 121 km/h in a 60 zone. The Class 7N driver was in violation of excessive speeding, having too many passengers (one was unbelted) and no ‘N’ sign. VTs issued. Vehicle impounded. pic.twitter.com/pLLq9AhKRE

Another speeding story we covered recently led to a notable conversation about fines and penalties for speeding, with many Metro Vancouver residents suggesting that for some drivers, the penalties aren’t enough.
The conversation stemmed from a story about a Vancouver Porsche driver who was almost going three times the limit, travelling 130 km/h in a 50 km/h zone. In response, police hit the driver with a $483 ticket. Many responded to the X post from the Vancouver Police Department’s Traffic Unit, suggesting that a fine worth $483 wasn’t enough for “these kinds of cars.”
It isn’t the first time folks have suggested that speeding ticket fines be based on someone’s income.
