Delta Police investigating Pokemon GO-related sex assault

The Pokemon GO craze is sweeping North America, but it can also be dangerous.

Delta Police say a 31-year-old New Westminster man is facing charges of sexual assault.

Acting Sergeant Sarah Swallow says a 19-year-old woman met the man on an online chat app, and arranged to meet him in Annieville Park last Wednesday so they could catch Pokemon together.

She says the man made sexual advances towards her, but she was able to run away.

Swallow says although the incident is related to the Pokemon GO craze, the underlying message to the public is to always err on the side of caution when meeting any stranger alone for any reason – whether or not you have met them online or in person.
