Vancouver has a few haunted houses, Surrey has the Potter’s House of Horrors and now Delta has its first Haunted House.
The idea for a haunted yard/house came about a few years back when Greg used to take his kids trick or treating. They would always be fascinated by the scary decor that some of the neighbouring houses would put up. They never forgot the ones that left a lasting impression on them and could not wait until next year to go again.
However it seemed that the door to door trick or treating began to wane over the years possibly due to a change in demographics in the neighbourhood or perhaps the idea of taking your kids to a “safer” venue to collect their treats.
The first year Greg and his family moved into the their current house, his wife created a simple yet effective graveyard. This got his creative juices flowing and every year he would add one or two items to the yard. On their yearly trip around the neighbourhood he was increasingly disappointed with the quantity and quality of decorations being offered. “I decided that it was time to step up and give the community something to talk about. Last year 2011, was my first year at building some serious props and decorating the entire yard from 7 ft cemetery columns and fencing to a graveyard , fog machines, lighting, sound etc. we served hot chocolate and the evening was a hit. We received plenty of “thank you for doing this” and “this is great for the community” comments. That type of feedback and the love of building creative things that may scare people led to this year, 2012,” says Greg.
“We have preparing for months. We now have a full size “swamp house” facade with an 800 ft 2 walled room maze under cover. There is a foyer, library, spider hall, witch room, dungeon, clown room and a graveyard. Many of our past props are utilized but have many new ones as well. There is only so much a couple of people can build in a season with their own funds; we make the best of recycling items. We hope to add a couple more actors this year to assist in the scare factor of the haunt.”
The Delta Haunted House is opne for all ages. However, parents are best to escort their kids through if they dare! There is no blood or gore as they are not going for that type of “shock”. “We are more into a feeling of eeriness, foreboding and overall creepiness. Due to the confines of the hallways and rooms, visitors are held to a maximum of 4-5 per group and will be ( at the time of this writing ) escorted through the house,” says Greg.
Since this is their first year, they’re going to start off on a small scale and see if demand warrants more nights the following year.

Hours: 6pm till around 10pm
Admission is free, however they will be collecting donations for the Children’s Miracle Network through a community sponsor, Remax Performance Realty Ltd.
