A day at the races: Deighton Cup 2016 to be bigger than ever

Get your chicest hats and flashiest bowties out! This year’s Deighton Cup – Vancouver’s most stylish day at the races – has been announced, and it’s set to be bigger than ever.

Some 4,000 derby revellers are expected at the annual all-day horse racing festival when it returns with great fanfare to Hastings Racecourse on Saturday, July 16.

“The event will be bigger and better than ever before as we open up the entire Marquee and Concourse as one complete VIP experience,” say organizers.

Ticketholders will get to enjoy (and bet on) eight “adrenaline-pumping” horseraces, as well as a delicious lunch of sandwiches and salad.

For the first time the entire festival grounds will be exclusive to Deighton Cup ticketholders only, and there will be even more food tents where you can enjoy some raceday feasts.

There will be the chance to be named The Style Stakes “Best Dressed”, get your name engraved on The Deighton Cup and win a weekend getaway.

And aside from the derby races, you’ll be able to explore a picnic area, cigar lounge and champagne stage, and kick up your heels to 10-piece funk ensemble Camaro 67.

For an upgrade, you can also attend the Cocktail Jockey Mixology Competition in a “super exclusive” area, with unobstructed views of the city, as cocktail cobblers shake their stuff.
