There was an explosion in a Northern BC city Tuesday morning, and police say they’re currently working to determine the number of people hurt.
It happened in Prince George around 7 am near Fourth Avenue and Dominion Street.
Northern Health confirmed three patients from the scene were transported to University Hospital of Northern BC following the fire.
“Our thoughts are with those impacted,” the health authority said.
Our thanks to our partners at BC Emergency Health Services, and to the RCMP and Prince George Fire Rescue who have responded to the incident.
UHNBC services, including the emergency department, are operating as usual.

Cpl. Jenifer Cooper with Prince George RCMP initially said “the number of casualties is currently unknown,” but no deaths have been confirmed so far.
Of the three patients taken to hospital, one had serious injuries.
Officers have closed nearby streets as they investigate, and say it’s not yet known what caused the explosion.
“This incident is dynamic and information is changing rapidly. We are insisting that all members of the public stay out of the immediate area to give first responders room to work safely,” Cooper said.
Power to the area has been shut off, and it’s expected to “remain that way for an undetermined amount of time.”
