Day 2 at the Pemberton Music Festival 2014 (PHOTOS, VIDEOS)
Day 2 of the Pemberton Music Festival began cloudy and cold with a persistent drizzle that had early birds huddling together for warmth.
Picture a small cluster of hipsters, some clad in flouresent American Apparel ponchos, dancing together in the muck to early-afternoon sets from Delta Rae, The Mad Wikkid and the Tontons and you’ll get the idea.

The sun made a very welcome appearance shortly after 3 p.m. and concert goers had to make their first Sophie’s Choice-style decision of the day, having to pick between sets from TV on the Radio and the Violent Femmes. This reporter chose both, catching the first half of the Femmes (who are celebrating the 30th anniversary of their debut album) before dashing over to the Pemberton stage to scream along with Brooklyn’s TV on the Radio.
The next near-impossible choice came at 6:30 p.m. when both the Flaming Lips and Snoop Dogg played sets directly across the festival grounds from each other.
Snoop was introduced by comedian and ‘homey’ (Snoop’s words) Bob Saget and tore through two decades of hits in just under 90 minutes. The iconic rapper performed blistering renditions of “Gin And Juice” & “What’s My Name?” and paid tribute to fallen comrades 2Pac and Notorious B.I.G. with covers of Pac’s “2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted” and Biggie’s classic “Hypnotize”.
Love (and a ton of weed smoke) was in the air as Snoop thanked the crowd for their 20 years of support before finishing his set with an awesome cover of Bob Marley’s “Jammin'”.
At 8:00 p.m., festival goers were divided between sets from The New Pornographers, Chance the Rapper and Toronto’s Metric, who captivated the audience with hits like “Help I’m Alive” and “Breathing Underwater” from 2012’s Juno Award-winning “Synthetica”.
At 9:45 p.m., as if on cue, the rain began to fall as headliner deadmau5 took the Pemberton stage but the damp weather couldn’t extinguish the spirits of the massive crowd. Canada’s most famous bass dropper spun hits from his last few discs and new material from last month’s “while(1>2)” album.
