Rio Theatre paying tribute to David Bowie with double bill

Dec 20 2017, 3:37 am

The Rio Theatre is paying tribute to the life of David Bowie by playing two of his most famous movies back to back.

On Saturday, January 23, the Vancouver theatre will play both the 80s classic Labyrinth and The Hunger, which also stars Susan Sarandon and Catherine Deneuve.

“Toast and honour the life and art of trailblazer, trendsetter, icon, musician and actor David Bowie with your friends and fellow fans in a darkened movie theatre,” reads the description on the Rio Theatre’s website.

The Hunger is described as an “erotically-charged goth cult-classic vampire romance.” Bowie plays the lover of Miriam, a vampire who preys on urban club-goers.

Bowie plays a goblin king in Labyrinth who kidnaps a baby while tormenting a young Jennifer Connelly. It then becomes her mission to retrieve her baby brother from the evil king.

Sip a beer and join other Bowie fans in celebrating the life of an iconic talent by watching the double bill at the Rio Theatre.
