The Vancouver Canucks will be without Dan Hamhuis for a while, after he took a Dan Boyle slap shot to the face in last night’s game against the New York Rangers.

Hamhuis was bloodied, and immediately rushed off the ice to get treatment. He was eventually taken out of the dressing room on a stretcher and taken to hospital in an ambulance.

Update: Hamhuis suffered a facial fracture and will undergo surgery.

Desjardins isn’t a doctor of course, so we’ll await official word from the team.
If we can take one positive from this, it is lucky the puck did not appear to strike his eye.
